Whales, a Life-long Love
Whale Lover Navigating Life with MS: Sharing Knowledge, Finding Support
Hi everyone, my name is Shenole Latimer, and I’m originally from Long Island, New York, though I now live in Florida.
My love for whales started when I was just seven years old. Back then, I could name nearly every whale species known at the time. My passion even caught the attention of the staff at the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum, who made me an honorary tour guide during my visit—a memory I’ll never forget!
Another unforgettable moment came when my aunt and uncle took me to Fire Island to see a young 25-foot-long sperm whale. the locals named him Physty, and he had originally beached himself at Coney Island. Seeing such a big and magnificent creature up close only deepened my love for whales.
This passion inspired me to begin studying marine biology at Stony Brook University. Though I eventually became a professional musician, my fascination with whales never faded. I’ve always kept up with the latest research and discoveries, eager to learn more and share my knowledge.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. The disease has been a life-changing event, to say the least, and it has forced me out of the workforce. But, I’ve maintained an optimistic spirit! To adapt to my new reality, I created this blog in dedication to my lifelong passion for whales. Through my whale watching blog, I aim to educate others about these incredible creatures and generate support for myself, as I navigate the challenges of living with MS.
Any donations make a tremendous difference! They help me manage this difficult disease while continuing to share my love for whales.
